 which I want to communicate, to you<lb/>
 &amp.and; I want to mention some of these<lb/>
 difficulties because I think that <add rend="el">this</add><lb/>
 <del type="dnpc">they can</del> <add rend="i">may possibly</add> <del type="dnpc">thereby be</del>  diminish<del type="dn">ed</del> <add rend="im">them</add>&p.es;</s></seg>

 first I will mention &mdash; but <del type="dnpc"><unclear>which is I believe</unclear></del><lb/>
 <del type="dnpc"><unclear>&unread;</unclear></del> by no means the greatest &mdash; is that, as<lb/>
  you<corr type="npc">,</corr> know<corr type="tra">,</corr> Englis<add rend="our">h</add> is not my native<lb/>

 language &amp.and; my expression will therefore<lb/>
 not be as clear &amp.and; precise a<add rend="our">s</add> it would<lb/>
 be desirable when one has something<lb/>
 very difficult to communicate&p.es;</s> <s type="es">Please<lb/>

 help me in my task of making myself<lb/>
 understood by <del type="dnpc"><unclear>abstracting</unclear></del> <add rend="i">overlooking</add> as much<lb/>
 as possible <del type="dnpc"><unclear>from</unclear></del> <add rend="i">the</add> faults against <del type="d">the</del><lb/>

 English grammar which will constant<corr type="tran">l</corr>y<lb/>
 occur in my speech&p.es;</s> <s type="es">The second 
 difficul<lb rend="shyphen"/>ty which I will mention <del type="dnpc">is</del> <del type="dnpc"><unclear>t</unclear></del> se<corr type="trsn"><orig type="trsn1">a</orig><reg type="trsn2">e</reg></corr>ms to<lb/>

 me to be by far more serious &amp.and; to 
 ex<lb rend="shyphen"/>pla<corr type="trsn"><orig type="trsn1">ne</orig><reg type="trsn2">in</reg></corr> it I must tell you why I have<lb/>
 chosen the subject <del type="d">which</del> I have<lb/>

 a paper to your society the first<lb/>

 a popular lecture, say on logic,<lb/>
 which would serve to make you<lb/>
 believe that you understand a<lb/>
  thing w<add rend="el">h</add>ich as a matter of fact<lb/>
 you don<corr type="tra">&apos;</corr>t understand (&amp.and; which it is<lb/>

 not a bit nec<corr type="npcn">c</corr>essary that you<lb/>
 should) &amp.and; to gratif<corr type="trsn"><orig type="trsn1">ie</orig><reg type="trsn2">y</reg></corr> the very lowest<lb/>
 of modern d<add rend="our">esires</add> viz&p.es; the superficial<lb/>

 curiosity about the latest discoveries<lb/>
  of <choice type="dsl"> <orig type="alt1"><del type="d">physicists, psychologists &amp.and; logicians</del> </orig><orig type="alt2"><add rend="i">scientists</add></orig></choice><lb/>
 I decided &mdash; I say &mdash;  that I should<lb/>

 use this opportunity to speak to<lb/>
 you <del type="dnpc">about</del> not as a logician, still<lb/>
 less as a <add rend="our">cro</add>ss between a scientist<lb/>
 &amp.and; a journalist but as a human<lb/>

 being <del type="dnpc">to human beings</del> who tries to<lb/>
 tell <choice type="dsl"><orig type="alt1"><del type="d">his fellow</del></orig> <orig type="alt2"><add rend="i">other</add></orig></choice> human beings something<lb/>
