Joint Nordic Use of VWA Helsinki and WAB Bergen (JNU VWAB) (2008-2010)
The Georg Henrik von Wright Archives at
the University of Helsinki (VWA) and the Wittgenstein Archives at the
University of Bergen (WAB) have been awarded financial support by
NordForsk for the "Joint Nordic Use of WAB Bergen and VWA Helsinki" (JNU
VWAB) project. The project runs from 1.1.2008 until 31.12.2010.
Through this project, researchers based in a Nordic country or
affiliated to a research institution in the Nordic countries are
offered stipends for coordinated and supported use of WAB and VWA, be
it through single user or user group projects.
"User group" means a group of researchers, not necessarily all coming from the same country, but participating in the same project.
Selection of projects to be carried out under JNU VWAB follows call and evaluation procedures. Until now seven projects have been accepted; this includes one group project. JNU VWAB research stays are listed on the WAB Guests and visitors site or the VWA site, respectively.
This is the fifth call for proposals. Nordic researchers can propose short-term (up to 1,5 months) single user or user group projects to be conducted at VWA or WAB, pertaining to the following areas: (1) Wittgenstein research and philosophy, (2) Digital scholarly editing, text technology and digital humanities, (3) Fields of intersection between (1) and (2). User group projects, proposals pertaining to areas (2) and (3), and proposals for projects to be carried out at VWA are particularly encouraged. Applications in response to this call can propose projects to be carried out in the period 1.2.-31.12.2010.
Project proposals are evaluated and selected by the JNU VWAB Management committee on the basis of scientific merit and with the aim of achieving an adequate implementation of the following factors: distribution of research areas; collaborative research; gender equality; support of researchers from disadvantaged areas.
Participants of selected projects are granted reimbursement of travel expenses (Economy Class), accomodation and living expenses (NOK 1100 per day, see NordForsk's rates) and use of WAB or VWA free of charge for the agreed duration of the project. Neither salaries nor insurance will be funded by the JNU VWAB activity.
JNU VWAB includes infrastructural, logistical, technical and scholarly support for its users. For specific information on resources offered at VWA and WAB visit the "Description of resources and support available to JNU VWAB users" site.
It is expected that JNU VWAB users publish the results of their research in the international literature and that the support from the JNU VWAB programme and NordForsk is acknowledged in the publications. Each user is also expected to submit a report and to fill in a users questionnaire within two months after the completion of the project.
