Kjell S. Johannessen is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Bergen. Johannessen is primarily known for shaping the theoretical foundations for what is internationally referred to as the Bergen School of Aesthetics, his “praxis”-interpretation of Wittgenstein’s Philosophical Investigations, and his contributions to the analysis of what in the Philosophy of Science is called “tacit knowledge”.

Johannessen was previously Vice-Chancellor of the Nordic Summer University and leader of its program committee. He worked many years as editor of Norsk filosofisk tidsskrift (Norwegian Journal of Philosophy). He has also, in cooperation with professor Bo Göranzon, for many years led a doctoral course in the Philosophy of Science at Kungliga Tekniska högskolan (The Royal Institute of Technology) in Stockholm and Arbetslivcentrum (Stockholm) supporting local and international cooperation and exchange between educational institutions and business.
