The Silence After Kant

Charles W. Lowney

Abstract

Wittgenstein, in the Tractatus, is sometimes seen as a seer
guiding us to a mystical insight about something unspeakable, and sometimes seen as a
debunker of mysticism, guiding us to see that there is nothing to see. Warren
Goldfarb has characterized the debate between these two ways of looking at
Wittgenstein as the battle between the "arch-realist" position and the "dissenting
view".
