Reflections on the editions of Wittgenstein's works

Anthony Kenny

Abstract

The lecture reflects on the history of the publication of Wittgenstein's Nachlass in the fifty years since his death. It does not aim to be a complete history, but rather a personal account, based on my years of involvement in the process (first as a translator, and for the last ten years as a Nachlassverwalter). The audience is invited to assess whether, now that the Bergen electronic edition is widely available, and the Schulte critical edition of the Untersuchungen has appeared, there is any need to aim at a full hard-copy Gesamtausgabe of Wittgenstein's writings.
