Wittgenstein's Private Language Arguments

Abstract



What most people think of as "the Private Language Argument" receives its clearest
expression at #258 of Philosophical Investigations. The problem raised by
contingently private languages reinforces our conclusion that the #258 argument
cannot be cogent.
