God and Hinge Proposition

Earl Stanley B. Fronda

Abstract

Wittgensteinians had maintained that the attempt to justify belief in God is uncalled
for because it is a hinge proposition and such is immune to doubt and beneath
justification. But there are certain indicators that belief in God may not be a hinge
proposition. For one, it is something not shared by all reasonable persons as hinge
propositions are supposed to be. And another, casting doubt on it is not deemed an
aberration as it would be with hinge propositions.
