From Anti-Metaphysics to Non-Pyrrhonian Polyphony - remarks on the difficulty of receiving Wittgenstein

Thomas Wallgren

Abstract

The difficulty of receiving Wittgenstein is renown. What is this difficulty? I
suggest a distinction between two ways of looking at the issue. I argue that the
distinction can serve to bring certain issues pertaining, for short, to the Socratic
dimension in Wittgenstein’s conception of philosophy into focus. The polyphonic
interpretations of Wittgenstein proposed by Stern, Pichler and others, are seen as
improving on therapeutic interpretations but their Pyrrhonism is judged
problematic.
