Wittgenstein and Logical Analysis

Montgomery Link

Abstract

The early Wittgenstein is widely held to be a logical atomist. Sometimes this view is
distinguished from the view that the early Wittgenstein was a logicist. Since the
minimal case for logicism is that elementary arithmetic is part of logic, I point out
that a logical atomist will agree to the view that Wittgenstein is a minimal case
logicist. I then argue that Wittgenstein is not a logicist, even in the minimal
case.
