Moore’s Paradox and the Context Principle

Yrsa Neuman

Abstract

How come one cannot assert “I believe it is raining and it is not raining”
without it becoming absurd in some way, even though it might be true that I
believe something which is not the case, and which someone else could perfectly
well assert that about me? This problem, called Moore’s paradox, depends on a
certain view of the proposition, which arguably goes against “the context
principle”.
